Description

Why did you become a wedding planner and designer?

I’ve always had a love for weddings. Secretly over the years, I have eyed numerous wedding gowns, created “draft” invitations, and taken mental notes of do’s and don’t from many weddings, dreaming of the day it would be my turn to wear the gown. I knew that I would be able to plan an amazing wedding when the time came. I began researching ideas, well before I ever got engaged. Knowing there were so many fantastic options out there, there was no way I could use them all, and knew then knowing I would love to work with brides in planning their most fabulous day ever. Growing up with my extremely artistic mother, I learned a lot about fashion, wardrobe, style, colors palates and the arts. I can remember numerous times being dragged into shopping malls and stores so my mother could assist a friend or family member pick out just the right outfit for an event. Apparently a bit of that rubbed off on me.

My artistic side took over full force when I went off to college, where I embrace the world of the theatre. I took design course in lighting and stage design, management courses in direction and stage management, and culture courses in Asian and European theatre and music course and ethnic dance styles. Meanwhile, I worked in the banquet hall as the banquet captain for the head table catering to the bridal party on the weekends. I looked forward to every weekend, and the chance to see another gorgeous wedding reception.

Fast forward years down the road where I hit a fork in the road. I was laid off from my job which I really didn’t like and I wanted to do something I was passionate about. A friend and I were talking at the nail salon, as I flipped through a wedding magazine, when it dawned on me . . . I can do this! At that point, I made the decision to begin my wedding higher education. I began working in a bridal store to learn even more about fashion and interned with a fantastic planner for hands on training. I had an “A-Ha” moment. This was it . . . this is what I was meant to do.

You say you were a theatre major in college? How does that relate to weddings?

Actually, very well. I discovered in my training that many elements of planning a wedding directly correlated to work I did in the theatre. For instance, my training in lighting design helped me better describe what the bride and groom were looking for in creating their room atmosphere. Design training taught me all about color combination, proper placement of room elements to maximize the space and control traffic flow. Between my mother’s costuming gift and my work in the costume shop, I learned a ton about silhouettes, fashion savvy, what compliments various figures, and creative combination. And of course, my training as a director and stage manager taught me how to organize a team of people to create a spectacular production . . . ultimately a stunning wedding.

Wow, I never thought about it that way, but you’re right there are a lot of similarities. I see from your website that you specialize in planning and designing South Asian/Indian Persian, and Chaldean weddings. How did you get into that and what’s your heritage?

Actually, that’s sort of a funny question, and one I’ve been asked by people all my life. My answer is in two parts. First, even as a kid, I was fascinated with foreign cultures. My favorite part of Disneyland was Villages of the World in Epcot Center. I studied 4 foreign languages, including German, French, Yiddish and Russian. The second part relates to your background question. I actually made people’s inquires into a little game for myself, just to see how others saw me. What I found is I was quickly embraced by numerous ethnic groups simply based on my appearance. Because of that, I’ve experienced many cultures from a place of acceptance that others never experience, while at the same time viewing things from a bird’s eye view. What I mean, is that even though I can’t be from your culture, I embrace it and am better able to blend it with a Western point of view. Most of my brides are 2nd and 3rd generation Americans and often struggle to find a balance between the traditions of their family and their Western lifestyles and friends when planning their wedding. Having a strong relationship with both, I am better able to aid my brides in finding that harmony while at the same time making their culturally rooted families happy as well.

As for my own background . . . I’m going to keep that a mystery! It’s worked for me for over 20 years, why stop now?

And so the mystery continues . . . We love your services and portfolio. Everything sounds great. So, can you tell me how you are different from all the other planners and designers out there?

My approach to planning is centrally based around one thing–YOU. Just as I dove into plays to find the juicy details and qualities to design the moving parts a spectacular visual display on stage, we get to the root of your style, personality, and unique features to capture and ultimately help you create the wedding of your dreams! What separates my services from others is helping you see the big picture. Utilizing in my passion for theatrical design and planning to infuse your wedding with every element of you. Brides who work with me receive personal attention from someone who is beyond passionate about planning your custom cultural wedding . . . while having a ton of fun!

This all sounds so wonderful. But, it also seems expensive. Are we going to be able to afford this?

Most certainly! I’ve read that it takes the average bride over 400 hours to plan her wedding. That’s TEN 40-hour work weeks. Yikes! That’s kind of ridiculous, and who has time for that? But its not just about that. I’ve had so many clients tell me how much they’ve saved in time, money and energy working with us. Plus, I’ve had dozens of people who decided that we were too expensive to work with us, tell me after their weddings how they tripled or quadrupled their budgets, all because they didn’t know what they were doing, and probably the worst of all, it wasn’t even close to what they wanted. It kills me to hear that from anyone, and I don’t want that to happen to you too. So, really think about what your dream wedding looks like and what that means to you…seriously. And, call or visit with me for your complimentary get acquainted consultation so that we can really talk about your dreams and how we can create them together. It doesn’t sound that expensive now, does it?

Who do you work best with?

You will benefit best from working with me if you want your dream wedding, but you either don’t have the time, the resources or the know-how to get this done. If you are frustrated with well meaning family and friends telling you what you want, or if you know what you want, but have no idea how to get there and not clear at all about how to plan the wedding of your dreams, that’s okay. If you want a celebrity style wedding and need assistance managing your budget to get what you want. If you are a bride struggling to balance your heritage and or your fiance's heritage into your wedding along with your American lifestyle, You are a perfect candidate.

Who’s not going to benefit from my help planning your wedding?

While ideally I would love to work with everyone, I realize we have to be a match for one another if we are going to create the most amazing day you’ve always wanted. So, if you’re a chronic skeptic, don’t understand the value of having a wedding planner, or have trouble seeing that you deserve the most fabulous wedding possible, this is not going to be a good fit. It’s absolutely OK if you think that you’re in this category, but you need to do some soul-searching and thinking before we get started. Otherwise, I won’t be able to help you the way you need it. You absolutely must know that you are deserving of the gifts that are there for you before you can receive them.

Will I lose control of my own wedding if you are planning it for me?

No, absolutely not. As I mentioned earlier, you’re wedding is centered around YOU . . . YOU MUST BE INVOLVED! You get to do all the fun stuff, without the stress and time eating details!

A bad wedding planner is one who takes control away from you. A good wedding planner is like makeup, it’s applied to further enhance your beauty, not cover it up. A good wedding planner is an extension of who you are and of your creativity. You are the focus of your wedding and its totally your day. We’re just here to help you fully explore your potential and fully realize your dreams in ways that you never even imagined!

You will never, ever lose control. It is YOUR day. Period.

Will you work the vendors I’ve already found or people I really want to work with?

Of course. We will work with your fabulous vendors and make sure that they’re the right fit for you. While you will also have amazing vendors at your fingertips that we can easily match to your needs, we can work with any vendor you trust and prefer.

Do you take credits cards and do you have a payment plan?

Yes. We happily accept all major credit cards. That’s how we do most of our business actually. What also makes us different from others is that we can setup automatic payments so that you never have to worry about sending checks, and you don’t have to think about paying us before the wedding.

Do you take more than one wedding per day?

Absolutely not. We can only concentrate on one fabulous creation a day, and we dedicate that to you.

This sounds exactly like what we’ve been looking for. So how does this process work?

Fabulous! The next step is for you to call me at 248.930.9195 or you can email me to set up a “Get Acquainted” complimentary session. I want to hear about your vision for your dream wedding day and what you’d love to see your day be like.

We have a few more questions before getting started. Can I call or email you to discuss this further?

Yes. Every single wedding we plan and design is distinctive, unique and is customized completely to the couple. Please feel free to call me with any questions or ideas you may have at 248.930.9195 or you can email to discuss your event.

I can’t wait to meet you. And congratulations on your engagement!
